Enyinna Nkem-_AbontaDr. Enyinna Nkem-Abonta is the first Nigerian born South African Parliamentarian in history and that is no mean achievement.

Born of Igbo parentage in Nigeria, he has travelled all over the world in the quest and acquisition of the 'golden fleece'. He holds a PhD in economics and a Masters in Physics as well as an MBA.

He has been a professor extraordinaire, teaching economics to PhD students at the University of Pretoria and is currently Adjunct Professor of Economics at Fort Hare where he supervises Masters Students.

He lived in the East London area for years– working as head of the Department of Economic Development and Environment Affairs in Bhisho before joining East London Industrial development zone and later heading eMonti STP (Science and Technology Park) in the Eastern Cape.

Before his current position as eMonti STP head, he was economic advisor in the economic development and strategic planning department to Dr Zweli Mkhize – Premier of KwaZulu-Natal and before this he was a Member of Parliament and served in the Portfolio Committees of Science and Technology and Trade and Industry.

He also headed the budget office in the provincial treasury of KwaZulu-Natal, and served within the Small Enterprise Development Agency (Seda).

Dr Abonta is a classic example for all Nigerians and African immigrants in South Africa who strive for excellence, that South Africa indeed can give you the pedestal to excell if you maintain a positive drive. He is a passionate schemer for economic development of South Africa and Africa.
