Fotor0902172728Sunday 1st  September 2013 was the official Spring Day in South Africa. With the weather and elements in agreeable and pleasant conditions, the day bore semblance to one of those days in fairytale stories when little Princesses make outings.

Believe it! It was the day that the Amagbas in Johannesburg, decided to arrange the most beautiful of outings for their daughter, Christabel Chidera ‘Princess’ Amagba who clocked a memorable one year on that august date.

Mr. and Mrs. Charles Amagba and Christine Amagba of Ochasi Ato, Orlu Imo State, Nigeria and residents of J’burg, chose the sacred and blessed spaces of Christ the King Cathedral, Doornfontein Johannesburg to throw an unforgettable 1st year birthday for their daughter Christabel and made a joyous spectacle of it.

It was unusual for a kid’s birthday to have a hall full of well wishers, but SANigerians Online Magazine learnt that it was as a result of the Amagba family’s nature as amiable friends, humble and gracious acquaintance to many in the community that made many of their friends to turn up and join them in celebration of their lovely daughter’s milestone.

The party was conducted in a balanced mix of western and typical Naija styles. The kids had a classic western birthday session highlighted by angelic renditions of ‘Happy Birthday to you ‘and ‘she is a jolly good fella’ birthday songs which was followed by the cutting of the ‘Princess themed’ birthday cake by the birthday girl, lots of treats and jungle gym plays followed the proceedings to the magical elation of the the boisterous and happy kids present.

For the adult party-goers it was flenjo! Typical Naija style. There was the usual Igbo ceremonial protocols like the long and evil-binding-prayers, performance of the kola rites, ‘recognition’ of the very important etcetera.

Talking of the very important, we forgot to mention that Mr.Charles Amagba is an Executive member of Ohaneze Ndigbo South Africa ( The Apex Socio-Cultural Igbo organization  in South Africa) and a respected Nigerian community leader in the country; hence VIP’s were in abundance from all Naija organizations. Ohaneze Ndigbo South Africa, Nigerian Union South Africa, Nigerian States Unions in South Africa, Town Unions and other numerous committees of friends in Mandela country. Notable amongst the VIP guests were, Ohaneze President Chief (Engr.)Smart Okeugiri and his executive committee, Imo State Union out-going President General Mr. Mike Ogoke and his Executives, innumerable  other important personalities  who were all given the usual Naija warm welcome by the very hilarious and eloquent Master of the ceremony (MC) Mazi Oduaka CC.

Birthday wishes for Princess Amagba

Food and drinks were in abundance and the music from the life band blared melodious and danceable traditional tunes that could make even the wildest Lagos Owambe party look like a prayer meeting. It was followed by lot of the usual dancing and spraying of the celebrant family especially the proud mother (Mrs. Christine Amagba) with lots of moni.

A grand entrance by royalty in the persons of Ezeigbo South Africa (H.R.M Eze Akuenwebe) and Ezeigbo Ghana (H.R.M Eze Ohazurumee) entourages from their palaces brought the occasion to a tumultuous finale.

Such was how the day was made. A fine weather, angelic good wishes songs, good food, the fairest of moods and a visit by two royalties. What more proof does one need before he or she would agree that they attended a Princesses’ birthday party?

May you have a long a prosperous life Christabel  Chidera ‘Princess’ Amagba!
