David Alaba._Proudly_9JADavid Alaba was born David Olatokunbo Alaba to a Yoruba Nigerian DJ/Rapper father and a Philipino mother in Vienna Austria on 24th June 1992.On record as the youngest player to make the legendary Bayern Munich team, he is also an Austrian National Team player with a lot of accolades.

Many will remember him as a quick footed who has played a multitude of roles for Bayern Munich, including central midfield, right and left wing, but as of spring 2012 has blossomed as a left back, a role then Bayern coach Jupp Heynckes has stated he sees Alaba continuing in.

The defender said he actually planned to join Nigeria's cadet team which won the 2007 FIFA World Youth Championship at South Korea but words reached him of his ineligibility.

In his words he confirmed his interest of wanting to play for the Nigerian National team but was turned down by the Nigerian FA. He alleged: ‘I wanted to play for Nigeria but I must confess that there was no formal approach for me. A scout actually discussed that with me. I was excited because of my dad, he was a fan of Sunday Oliseh when Oliseh played for FC Koln. As a kid, I loved to watch Victor Agali in the jersey of Hansa Rostock,'' he told an Austrian news medium.

However, Alaba was shocked when told by the scout that Nigeria had plans mainly for its home-grown talents.

'' I got the information that Nigeria will only consider those who were in the country perhaps because of travelling logistics and that is the end of that."

Though a fully fledged Austrian National Team player, we love his development and undying love for our dear country. We wish him more successes in his endeavors and enjoin him o remain 9ja by heart.
